Commercial Door Operators/Openers

Operator Specs

Clopay has commercial or industrial door operators for every application ranging from medium-duty commercial operators to gearhead industrial operators. Choose from jackshaft or trolley drawbar types that can lift our standard sectional or coiling steel doors.

Operators are available with 1/3 HP to 5 HP motors and have a wide variety of standard features like:
• emergency disconnects
• external radio control terminal
• positive locking brakes
• adjustable clutches and more

Also available are car wash and watertight modifications, apartment house operators, gearhead operators and modifications for hazardous areas.
Trolley Type

Trolley Type Operators feature the motor unit mounted between, above and to the rear of the “L-rail” horizontal tracks. The trolley drive provides continuous contact with the door and is recommended for application wherever possible. This is the only operator suitable for low headroom applications. Multiple trolleys can be used for wider doors.

Jackshaft (Side Mount–Center Mount)
Jackshaft or Side-Mounted/Center-Mounted operators feature the motor unit mounted on the inside front wall (side-mount) or in line (additional headroom is required for center-mounting) and connected to the torsion shaft with adjustable couplers or drive chain and sprockets.

Hoist (Side Mount–Center Mount)
Hoist Style Operators are available in both side and center mount (like the Jackshaft) with the addition of a chain hoist wheel providing an easy emergency manual operation capability by simply engaging the floor-level disconnect.

Belt Drive vs. Gear Reduced

Belt Driven Operators utilize belt reduction (Models ATS, MT, T, APT, MJ, J, MH, and HT). Gear Reduced Operators incorporate a heavy-duty worm gear-in-oil-bath speed reducer. As a general rule, a medium-duty operator is not recommended for applications requiring more than 50 cycles per day.

An industrial belt drive operator should be used in applications with cycles up to 80–90 per day. High cycle modifications and/or gearhead operators should be used for applications requiring cycles in excess of 90 per day.

An automated vehicular door system includes several components, all of which must be selected in concert with each other and with the requirements of the job if it is to be successful. In addition to the door itself, a system consists of a door operator, entry control, equipment to interface with the operator, and safety equipment to protect people and property from hazards of an electrically powered door.
