Customer research conducted by Empire at construction sites nationwide has shown that one of the key requirements of a good square is the ability to read it quickly and accurately, in virtually all lighting conditions. Along with the etched graduations and matte finished blades, these squares feature a True Blue® vial in each head with patent-pending blue bands that darken and define the bubble perimeter to provide enhanced visibility.

True Blue® vials are produced through a proprietary process called Advanced Concentric Molding (ACM), pioneered by Empire. The ACM process assures repeatability so that all True Blue® vials meet the same stringent standards for accuracy, consistency, and concentricity.

The new True Blue® combination squares are guaranteed accurate for squareness to a tolerance of .001” per inch. The die cast zinc heads are milled using a single point of reference to ensure accuracy, a process unique to Empire. The new squares are available in 6" (e255), 12" (e250), and 16" (e280) blade lengths.

Day to day use on the jobsite makes dropping a level, or having one fall from a high point, almost inevitable. Empire engineers solved this problem with E-Shock™. This new shock absorbing system features end caps made of a soft elastomer that helps to ensure accuracy, even after many drops. Empire tested E-Shock by performing multiple tests, dropping e70’s on concrete from varying heights between 6 and 10 feet in order to check all horizontal and vertical reads. The True Blue® e70 maintained its accuracy and frame integrity, even after all other tested levels failed. After many falls, the e70 was still accurate within five-ten-thousandth of an inch (.0005”) per inch in all level and plumb reading positions. This standard of accuracy is equivalent to a maximum error of only one-thirty-seconds of an inch (or one-half the width of a dime) over six feet.

Based on our stringent testing, we’re confident that in head-to-head tests, the e70 from Empire will be the last level standing!
